Calling all Guardians: We want you!

For a significant portion of us here at The TGC Times, Friday afternoons and weekends in our younger years meant one thing: Destiny. We’d come home from school, controllers charged, knowing that Xur was about to appear with some exotic gear that could redefine our loadouts (a possible zero-to-hero moment). Trials of Osiris was about to pop off (maybeeee…), and we had all the time in the world to delve into raids, deciphering mechanics and laughing our way through wipe after wipe for hours on end. Those memories aren’t just pixels on a screen, they’re the bedrock of friendships forged in fireteams, triumphs celebrated over comms, and the shared pursuit of god rolls and impossible challenges. And you know exactly what we are talking about!

As we all grew up, life inevitably pulled us in different directions. Gaming groups disbanded, schedules became tighter, and “all the time in the world” became the good ol days. Yet, the pull of Destiny 2 never fully left. Once or twice a year, we’d still find ourselves popping in, drawn by a new expansion, a seasonal refresh, or maybe even a jam of the crucible. Even when Bungie made some questionable decisions, and let’s be honest, there were a few. We still cherished some of our greatest gaming memories in and out of the tower.

It was only a few weeks ago that I managed to get the old band back together, a group of friends I hadn’t properly played with in over eight years. We jumped back into Destiny 2, and it was like no time had passed. Our love for Destiny 2 came roaring back. We were hooked, planning our next sessions, reminiscing about past glories, and truly rediscovering what made this game so special.

And then, less than two weeks later, the announcement came. Bungie stated that The Final Shape would indeed be the culmination of the Light and Darkness saga, but more critically, it would also be the final annual expansion, marking the end of Destiny 2’s live service seasonal model as we know it. While the game isn’t ending entirely, the shift to “Episodes” and a clear signal that the overarching narrative is concluding feels, to many, like an era drawing to a close. Let’s be honest, how much endgame content can you repeat?

Never has anyone at The TGC Times seen such an unprecedented surge of ex-players, past and present Guardians, and even casual fans returning with a singular purpose: to try and keep the spirit of this game alive. Our social media feeds are practically overflowing with Destiny 2 content. Every reel, every TikTok, circles back to the game’s final weeks. You literally can’t get away from it. This isn’t just a gaming community reacting to news, it’s a testament to the profound impact Destiny 2 has had on millions of lives.

It’s clear that the passion, the potential, and the player base for the Destiny universe are far from exhausted. We’ve seen first-hand that when given a reason, even after an eight-year hiatus, players will flock back to experience that magic. With Bungie seemingly shifting its focus towards Marathon, a title that, frankly, appears to be struggling just by player numbers and feels like a half-baked cash grab trying to keep up with titles like Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2. We don’t usually get that harsh, but we mean it. The timing of this Destiny 2 news feels particularly disheartening to many dedicated fans. The potential for a true successor, a Destiny 3, feels not just desirable, but necessary.

This is why, here at The TGC Times, we are taking an unusual step. This IS NOT a paid promotion, nor is it part of some grand marketing scheme. This is us, doing a pure labor of love for a game we all hold so fondly in our memories and our gaming hearts, let me honest the TGC Time definitely isn’t a massive publication. We believe the community’s response to the recent news speaks volumes, the desire for a revitalised, next-generation Destiny experience is palpable.

We are calling upon our readers, upon every Guardian, past and present, to join the movement. If you believe, as we do, that the Destiny universe deserves a fresh start, a true Destiny 3 that harnesses the power of modern gaming technology and renews the promise of endless adventure, then make your voice heard.

Let’s collectively show Sony and Bungie that the legacy of Destiny is far too important, but uphold them to a game we deserve.

Good luck out there, guardians.
