Hidden Fates: The Pokémon Set That Keeps Going Up – Our Investment Take

Hidden Fates The Pokémon Set That Keeps Going Up - Our Investment Take (1)

There is a reason collectors who missed Hidden Fates still bring it up (probably regret), and there is a reason for the debate over whether or not it is still worth buying at the current market prices. Not whether it was worth buying in 2019, because that answer is painfully obvious (can you tell we are hurting)and is a conversation popping up more frequently in the Pokémon investment community right now. So we here at The TCG Times, feel it’s a good time to give you an honest take on both sides.

What Made Hidden Fates Different

Hidden Fates was not your standard expansion, and that is pretty much the key to everything we are about to comment on. August 2019, the Pokémon Company released it as a limited-distribution product, which just means there was no booster box. The only way to get your hands on sealed Hidden Fates product was through specific bundles, Elite Trainer Boxes, tins, and special collection boxes, pretty basic stuff so far but that one decision, which at the time just felt like some kind of market stunt or trying something new at release, quickly turned out to create a significant supply constraint in the modern Pokémon market. Without the booster box means that bluk buyers couldn’t really “stock up”. This creates zero surplus of product sitting in warehouses waiting to hit shelves. And then bam, you have scarcity, which of course creates demand and increases prices. And remember, this is well before the market is where it is today.

The 2026 Investment Case: Still There, But Different…

We are going to be as straight with you as possible because that is what we do.

If you bought Hidden Fates ETBs anywhere below $150 USD, the hold case is strong. Structurally, the supply constraints are permanent, the Shiny Vault demand is fairly strong and ongoing, people are still only finding out about it today, and Charizard… well its a Shiny Charziard we know how that price its only going one direction and thats up. You are honestly in a good spot, well done, we’re jealous.

Now if you are considering buying in now at $280-548 USD per ETB, the math changes a bit. If you look at Gem Yeti’s 2026 price target for a Hidden Fates ETB, it currently sits at $450-550 USD by 2029, keep in mind that’s a prediction. Sooo simple math: if you are buying at $320 USD today, there is still upside, but remember you are paying a price that requires continued appreciation rather than having any meaningful margin of safety. At $500 USD per box, realistically you are betting on a product that has already had its biggest price hike. It’s not impossible to make a profit, it just offers a different risk than it did in 2019, back in the days when you could grab one off a shelf for fifty bucks.

The Shiny Charizard GX: The Card That Does the Heavy Lifting

At the moment, raw copies trade between $300 and $500 USD, obviously depending on condition. A PSA 10 is sitting between $800 and $ 1,200 USD and the pop has grown over the years as more copies have been submitted, pretty standard behaviour. But even with pop growing, the card still commands serious money to get your hands on. The investment concept for this card really is the same as every Charizard card thesis we have ever made, the big red dragon’s demand floor is just unmatched to anything else in the TCG hobby, and Charizard having such a distinct and generally cool black shiny colour/shard, it has a distinctiveness that the standard Charizard prints simply cannot replicate. If you are considering jumping into the Hidden Fates investment game without committing to sealed ETB prices, the Shiny Charizard GX PSA 10 (possibly even raw) could be the way to go.

The TCG Times’ Verdict: Hold if You Have It

This one is pretty easy to break down, if you are already holding Hidden Fates sealed product and purchased for under $150 USD a box? Keep holding, homie, stay patient. The trajectory for Hidden Fates has been pretty darn consistent in the upward direction, plus with the supply constraints locked in as permanent, and the collector/investor appetite still hungry for this product.

If you’re thinking about buying in fresh at current prices? Do your research. The realistic upside to 2029 from $280-320 USD is solid but not the amazing bet it once was. Consider this at $500 USD per box, you are still paying a price that has already had its major jump. Go in prepared and patient for a long hold at the right price.
